Bernie Sanders has vowed to fight on.

Despite losing the New Jersey primary Tuesday—a loss that made Hillary Clinton the presumptive Democratic nominee for president—the Vermont senator assured supporters he would continue his campaign until July’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Late Tuesday night, ballots were still being counted in delegate-rich California, the biggest prize among the June 7 primaries. As Sanders spoke to a throng of supporters in Santa Monica, Clinton had a significant lead in the Golden State.

“Thank you all. The struggle continues,” Sanders told the crowd.

Sanders touted how his campaign rallied young people and drew attention to income inequality and the “1 percent.” Sanders did not criticize Clinton and instead congratulated her on her wins
