Scott Brown, tea-party Republican (who comes, it seems, from the same factory that makes Romneys and Thunes) now leads in the Massachusetts Senate race for the Kennedy seat. More famous for his Cosmopolitan sexy-guy nude spread than his hard-right opinions, he’s in serious danger of coaxing voters from poor Martha Coakley, who only offers experience and intelligence. If he wins on Tuesday (as seems likely), there goes the 60-vote margin for health care of any kind. Ditto any chance on global warming, financial regulation, foreign policy sanity, etc, etc. The Obama years. I remember them. But mostly the tea.

Fact:

Mother Jones was founded as a nonprofit in 1976 because we knew corporations and billionaires wouldn't fund the type of hard-hitting journalism we set out to do.

Today, reader support makes up about two-thirds of our budget, allows us to dig deep on stories that matter, and lets us keep our reporting free for everyone. If you value what you get from Mother Jones, please join us with a tax-deductible donation today so we can keep on doing the type of journalism 2022 demands.
