It will also be broadcast live at societyillustrators.org. Not that talking about this syndrome will stop its recurrence. But understanding it may help us better survive the next assault. Hope to see y’all.

Christian Parenti is an American investigative journalist and scholar. His most recent book, The Freedom: Shadows and Hallucinations in Occupied Iraq (2004), is an account of the U.S. occupation in Iraq. Parenti has also reported from Afghanistan, Iraq, Venezuela, and Bolivia.

Steven Heller, designer, author, and coauthor of many works on the history of illustration, design, and ways they intersect with the world at large. His output numbers some 80 titles plus many articles in periodicals on design. Art here by Edel.

David Wallis contributes to the New York Times Magazine and the Washington Post. He is the editor of Killed Cartoons: Casualties From the War on Free Expression (W.W. Norton).

P.S.: ONE YEAR FROM TODAY IS D.C. SANIFLUSH DAY. DON’T FORGET THOSE RUBBER GLOVES!

Fact:

Mother Jones was founded as a nonprofit in 1976 because we knew corporations and billionaires wouldn't fund the type of hard-hitting journalism we set out to do.

Today, reader support makes up about two-thirds of our budget, allows us to dig deep on stories that matter, and lets us keep our reporting free for everyone.
