Despite its vast natural beauty, Montana is more often noted for its far-right wackos, from militant Christian extremists to anti-technology nut jobs than its environmental activists. But throughout the state (and the rest of the Northwest), there are groups and individuals working to change all that. Surprisingly, some of these folks are just as interested in prayer and Bible recitations as they are in preventing clearcuts.

A recent MISSOULA INDEPENDENT article examines the “Green Christian” movement through the eyes of three practitioners. Most interesting is the story of Peter Illyn, a former evangelical preacher and founder of the activist group Target Earth, who now regularly hauls beer and God-rock bands into the wilderness for what he calls “keggers for Christ.”
