The Daily News Forcefully Calls on Donald Trump to Quit After Second Amendment Remark

Donald Trump’s efforts to reset his presidential campaign after a disastrous week were immediately tossed out on Tuesday, after the Republican nominee told his supporters that “Second Amendment folks” could block Hillary Clinton and her Supreme Court appointees if she was elected president.

The remark set off an immediate firestorm and widespread condemnation from Democrats, who rebuked the real estate magnate for floating the idea that his supporters take up arms to assassinate his presidential rival and her Supreme Court picks.

Adding to the chorus of criticism on Wednesday, the Daily News dedicated its front page to demanding Trump end his campaign and Republicans disavow their presidential nominee. The cover is one of many the New York paper has used to call out Trump throughout his controversial campaign.

But don’t expect House Speaker Paul Ryan to consider the Daily News’ exhortations. Responding to Trump’s latest minefield on Tuesday, Ryan dismissed the notion that the comment was hinting at an assassination threat, describing the remarks instead as a “joke gone bad.”
