WATCH: Gov LePage Puts the Kids to Work (Cartoon)

Mother Jones illustrator Zina Saunders creates editorial animations riffing on the political news and current events of the week. In this week’s animation, Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) is at story time, teaching the kiddies all about the good ol’ days and his plans for turning back the clock on child labor laws. The recently proposed legislation would extend the number of hours a child can be required to work and lower the pay for children below the minimum wage. —The Editors

Fact:

Mother Jones was founded as a nonprofit in 1976 because we knew corporations and billionaires wouldn't fund the type of hard-hitting journalism we set out to do.

Today, reader support makes up about two-thirds of our budget, allows us to dig deep on stories that matter, and lets us keep our reporting free for everyone. If you value what you get from Mother Jones, please join us with a tax-deductible donation today so we can keep on doing the type of journalism 2022 demands.
