Name to the contrary, this SoCal band delivers sleazy boogie—not country or nihilistic metal—on its third album, sporting big guitars and junk-food tunes that recall the exuberance of ’70s glam rock. If “High Voltage” and “I’m Your Torpedo” seem drunk on bravado, it doesn’t take much digging to spot the naked desperation of front man Jesse Hughes, who’s supported as usual by Queens of the Stone Age leader Joshua Homme on drums. The backing voices of “(I Used to Couldn’t Dance) Tight Pants” coo, “Just want someone to be close to,” while the self-gratification ode “Solo Flights” finds Hughes sighing, “No one gets to love me.”
